THE CHALLENGE
Coordinate pickups and check trip charges
A hotel in Chennai operated airport pickups, return transfers and other journeys for its guests. Staff needed to tell passengers when their vehicle would arrive, but had no direct view of its location or estimated arrival time.
Guests paid according to the distance travelled. To check a trip charge, staff also depended on information supplied by the driver rather than an automatically recorded journey.
THE SOLUTION
Link pickup estimates and trip records
START S-2011 trackers were installed in all 10 vehicles. They supplied location and movement data to the hotel’s monitoring system, where staff could view vehicle positions, estimated arrival times and trip records.
Give guests an estimated pickup time
Staff could locate the assigned vehicle on the map and check the arrival estimate calculated by the connected system. They could then update waiting guests without first calling the driver to ask where the vehicle was. Arrival estimates supported pickup coordination while remaining subject to traffic and changes during the journey.
Check charges against recorded distance
Trip distance and duration appeared automatically in the system. Staff could review the relevant passenger journey and use its recorded distance to check the charge under the hotel’s per-kilometre tariff. They no longer needed to request mileage and trip duration from the driver after each journey. The recorded distance supported the calculation; the hotel’s tariff and billing rules determined the amount payable.
THE RESULT
Clearer pickups and distance-based charges
Vehicle location and arrival estimates supported guest updates during pickups. Automatically recorded distance and duration provided a consistent basis for checking completed journeys and explaining distance-based charges.
This reduced manual enquiries to drivers and made transfer coordination less dependent on their availability to answer calls.
- Hotel staff could answer two routine questions from the same system: when is the vehicle expected to arrive, and how far did the guest travel?
WHY START S-2011
Manage transfers without driver phone updates
START S-2011 made information previously requested from the driver directly available to hotel staff. They could update a waiting guest and check a completed journey without collecting those details by phone.
Its role in this project was straightforward: supply the journey data needed for arrival estimates and distance checks. That helped the hotel manage its 10 transfer vehicles with fewer manual enquiries and a clearer basis for charging guests.
