THE CHALLENGE

Locate overdue bikes and clarify rental discussions

Bikes were not always returned on time, and some customers disputed additional rental charges. The operator could not reliably see where an overdue bike was or provide a clear movement record when discussing its use.

Staff repeatedly called customers for updates. This created extra work and left the business dependent on verbal explanations when resolving disagreements about late returns.

The company needed to locate its bikes during rentals and support customer conversations with records of when and where they had travelled.

THE SOLUTION

Link rentals to location and trip history

START S-2011 trackers were installed across the 28-bike fleet. The connected monitoring platform provided location, journey, tracked-distance and speed records for the operator to review.

Locate overdue bikes

Staff could check each bike’s latest reported position when a rental approached or exceeded its agreed return time. This helped the operator decide when to contact the customer and discuss the return using specific location information, rather than calling simply to ask where the bike was.

Support rental reviews with journey records

The platform provided records of movement periods and distance travelled. Staff could use these reports alongside the rental’s recorded start and return times to explain how the bike had been used. Movement time was kept separate from rental duration. A customer could park during a rental and still retain the bike, so billable hours depended on the agreed rental terms and handover records—not solely on how long the bike was moving.

Review speed during the rental

Speed records helped staff identify occasions requiring follow-up with a customer, such as exceeding a configured rental-policy threshold. The operator could review the relevant journey segment and remind renters of the conditions for responsible use. Speed data supported these discussions without being treated as proof of every type of traffic violation.

CUSTOMER-REPORTED OUTCOMES

Locate overdue bikes and clarify returns

Staff could locate an overdue bike before contacting the renter about its return.

Journey and distance records supported discussions about use and speed. Handover records and rental terms remained the basis for billable duration.

WHY START S-2011

Follow up on an overdue rental with facts

S-2011 gave the operator a way to locate an overdue bike and discuss its journey with the renter. Staff no longer had to begin every return enquiry by asking where the bike was.

Distance and movement records supported that discussion across the 28-bike fleet. Rental terms and handover records still determined the charge; the tracker supplied evidence of use rather than an automatic bill.
