THE CHALLENGE
Remind riders before they leave the rental area
The owner rented out 11 scooters on the condition that customers kept them within North Goa. Journeys beyond this area made collection and assistance more difficult.
Explaining the restriction at handover did not allow the owner to monitor compliance during a rental. Customers could overlook the boundary or continue beyond it, while the operator needed to know where the scooter was and respond.
THE SOLUTION
Locate, warn and delay blocking by speed
SMART S-2421 trackers connected the scooters to a monitoring platform. One output controlled the warning buzzer, and a separate output controlled the blocking relay. The platform handled geographic boundary checks, while the tracker applied the configured speed condition before blocking.
Locate scooters during rentals
The trackers supplied location updates to the platform, allowing the owner to check each scooter’s latest reported position.
Warn riders before they cross the boundary
The platform used a warning area approximately 500 metres before the configured outer boundary. When a scooter entered this area, the system triggered a connected buzzer. Customers were informed of the rental restriction and the meaning of the audible warning. The signal reminded them to change direction and remain within the permitted area before a blocking request became necessary.
Delay blocking until the speed condition is met
If a scooter left the permitted area, the monitoring platform automatically sent a blocking command to SMART S-2421. The tracker did not activate the blocking relay immediately after receiving the command. It waited until reported speed fell below 15 km/h. This was the project’s activation condition, not an automatic braking command or a guarantee of safety in every riding situation. This created a staged response: an audible reminder near the boundary, followed by a blocking request after departure, with relay activation controlled by the device’s speed condition. Boundary detection and command delivery depended on location updates and communication with the platform.
CUSTOMER-REPORTED OUTCOMES
Better control of the rental service territory
The customer reported more manageable collection and assistance across its 11-scooter fleet.
Location records helped the owner find scooters, while the boundary warning reminded renters to turn back. Departures could be handled through the configured speed-conditioned blocking process.
WHY SMART S-2421
Warn renters before boundary crossings
S-2421 brought the service-area restriction to the rider through an audible reminder near the boundary. If the scooter left the area, the configured blocking request was subject to the device’s speed condition.
This supported the owner’s aim of keeping the 11 scooters within a manageable collection and assistance area. Location reporting helped find the scooter when intervention was needed; the warning gave the renter a chance to turn back first.
