A farm used a pending start-blocking request to restrict tractor restarts after shutdown, without remotely stopping a running engine.

THE CHALLENGE
Restrict the next start without interrupting current operation
An agricultural company needed to prevent unauthorized tractor use after working shifts.
Drivers were expected to stop at the end of their shifts, but could restart the tractors and continue working or moving machinery without permission. The company wanted to restrict further use without remotely stopping an engine while the tractor was operating.
THE SOLUTION
Wait for shutdown, then block the next start
The company equipped 8 tractors with SMART S-4511 trackers and a Complex Events program controlling an engine-start blocking relay.
Applying the restriction after shutdown
At the scheduled end of a shift, the fleet management platform sent a blocking command to the tracker. After receiving it, the tracker checked ignition status and the configured engine-running indication derived from supply voltage. If the engine was still running, the program kept the request pending. Once the configured conditions indicated that the ignition was off and the engine had stopped, the tracker activated the relay to prevent another start. The rule blocked the next engine start. It did not stop an engine already running or force the operator to finish at the scheduled time.
Authorizing the next use
The start block remained active until the tracker received an authorized release command from the platform. The fleet manager could approve the next shift or additional work remotely, without visiting the machine.
RESULTS
Make another start an authorised decision
Once a received restriction had activated after shutdown, the driver needed an authorised release to restart the tractor.
The manager could approve another shift or an exception remotely. A tractor still running could finish its current operation; the rule restricted the next start.
WHY SMART S-4511
Control restarts without stopping current work
S-4511 let the manager send an end-of-shift restriction without having to catch the exact moment each tractor stopped. Once received, the request waited for shutdown before preventing another start.
That gave the farm control over the next use of the tractor while allowing the current operation to continue. An authorised manager could release it for another shift or an exception without visiting the machine.
