THE CHALLENGE
Investigate vehicle use outside bookings
Drivers were using company vehicles for private cash fares outside the taxi operator’s booking system. Drivers kept the income, while the company’s vehicles, fuel and equipment were used for their benefit.
The owner needed to compare actual vehicle movements with bookings received through the driver app. The company also wanted to improve driving discipline and monitor air-conditioning use.
THE SOLUTION
Link journeys with bookings and driver reviews
SMART S-2421 trackers were installed in all 38 vehicles. They supplied location, route history and travelled distance to the monitoring platform.
Compare journeys with assigned bookings
The owner could compare booking start and finish times, pickup points and destinations with each vehicle’s actual movements. Journeys without a corresponding booking or unexplained route deviations could be reviewed with the driver. Checks also considered legitimate movements without passengers, such as travelling to a pickup or repositioning between bookings. A mismatch prompted investigation; it did not automatically prove that a driver had accepted a private cash fare.
Coach drivers using specific events
Configured Eco Driving events helped supervisors identify driving that required attention and discuss specific journey segments with drivers. This supported individual coaching and more disciplined driving. Smoother, more economical driving could potentially reduce fuel consumption and vehicle wear.
Control A/C use and vehicle access
The installation allowed the owner to monitor A/C status and switch it off remotely, providing a way to respond to use outside agreed operating conditions. An immobilizer was also connected for remote vehicle-use restrictions while parked. This complemented route monitoring by giving the owner a means of restricting vehicle access.
THE RESULT
Review unmatched trips and driving habits
The owner could check whether vehicle activity matched registered bookings. Unmatched journeys and unexplained deviations could be discussed with drivers using recorded times, routes and distances.
Eco Driving provided a basis for targeted coaching, helping the company address individual habits and encourage better driving discipline, with the potential to reduce fuel use and vehicle wear.
WHY SMART S-2421
Check actual use against assigned work
S-2421 gave the owner an independent record of how each vehicle was used. Bookings showed the work assigned to the driver; the tracker showed where and when the vehicle actually travelled.
Comparing these records made it possible to investigate work outside company bookings using specific evidence. Together with driving reviews and remote controls, this helped the owner move from suspicions and verbal explanations to checking individual journeys and driver actions.
