THE CHALLENGE
Record the full attendance day, not just arrival
A company needed to record when employees arrived, left for breaks, returned and finished their day.
The company wanted to connect these records with personal access cards used at the entrance door.
THE SOLUTION
Link door access to attendance
One office entrance door was equipped with card-reading points on the outside and inside, a door-lock relay and a SMART S-4511 tracker.
Capture card events at entry and exit
Employees presented their personal cards at the outside reader to enter and at the inside reader to leave. Normal access in either direction required a card to release the door lock. The system distinguished entry and exit by the side on which the card was presented. The tracker transmitted the identified, timestamped events to the attendance system.
Build each employee’s attendance record
The system associated entry and exit events with individual employees, creating a record of arrivals, departures and breaks.
RESULTS
Review recorded attendance
Staff could check each employee’s arrivals, departures and breaks using the door-passage record.
The attendance system used the entry or exit reading point to calculate time on site under company rules. This supported attendance checks without equating presence with productive working time.
WHY SMART S-4511
Record attendance at the moment of access
S-4511 made the card presentation used to open the door also supply a time-stamped attendance event. Staff could review who entered or left without asking employees to complete a separate arrival-and-departure record.
The attendance system could use the direction of passage to distinguish breaks from time on site. Door records supported attendance review; they were not a measure of productive work.
