THE CHALLENGE
Connect delivery stops with measured water volume
A private water-supply company delivered water to apartment complexes, construction sites and commercial buildings.
The company could track tanker routes, but arriving at a customer’s address did not confirm how much water had been supplied. Dispatchers relied on handwritten records and driver reports to check delivery quantities, making discrepancies and customer disputes difficult to investigate.
The operator needed to connect each delivery location with discharge activity and measured water volume.
THE SOLUTION
Record water volume and pump activity
The company equipped 24 water tankers with SMART S-4533 trackers connected to digital flow meters and pump-control signals.
Measuring water discharged
A digital flow meter connected through RS-485/Modbus measured the volume of water passing through the discharge line. The monitoring platform brought these measurements together with tanker location and time. Staff could review the measured volume associated with a customer stop and compare it with the planned delivery quantity.
Recording pump activation
The pump-control circuit was connected to a tracker input through an auxiliary relay. When the pump was switched on, the relay changed the input state, recording the activation. This provided two complementary records: the pump signal showed when discharge was commanded, while the flow meter showed how much water actually passed through the meter. Pump activation alone was not treated as proof of a completed delivery.
Investigating delivery discrepancies
For each delivery, the dispatcher could check where the tanker stopped, when the pump was activated and how much water passed through the flow meter during the stop. If pump activation occurred at an unexpected location, or the measured volume differed from the assigned quantity, staff could review the event and contact the driver. Trip history also helped verify the sequence of customer visits throughout the day.
PROJECT OUTCOMES
Explain the delivery with a measured quantity
Staff could check a disputed quantity against the customer’s discharge record and follow up on unexpected pump activity.
The customer reported fewer delivery disputes. The change was a more specific handover discussion based on measured volume and location, rather than only a driver’s confirmation.
WHY SMART S-4533
Give each customer delivery a checkable quantity
S-4533 made the water-meter reading useful for resolving a delivery question. The office could connect the discharged volume to the customer stop and pump operation, rather than accept a location visit as proof that the agreed quantity was supplied.
This gave staff a basis for explaining a delivery or investigating a shortfall without depending only on handwritten records and driver recollection.
